Statement
"I am in awe of the beauty I see around me every day. The sunlight, the shadows, the colors of nature. I love to paint scenes and subjects that stir an emotional response within me, and the fun of painting is to try and convey in my work the same emotion and inspiration that I feel to those who view my paintings."
Biography
Don Bosley is an award winning self-taught artist who began developing his interest in art at an early age. He was first inspired by a relative who sat at the kitchen table drawing scenes around the farm. Afterwards, he practiced by drawing comic book characters. As he went through school he attended advanced art classes and led student teams in building scenery and props for school plays. A Texan by birth, he has lived in many regions of the United States and he loves them all. His interest in art was always there but he seldom had opportunity for a serious effort as a professional artist. As a college student his talent landed him a job with a small sign shop as a sign designer. After college he built a career in the outdoor advertising industry but his job was in sales and management, ending as a regional real estate manager for a national company. As a sales person, he often found the art department behind schedule so he designed many of his clients’ projects at home in the evenings. It was a co-worker in the art department of a company in East Tennessee, who created and sold watercolor paintings and prints to visitors of the Smokey Mountains that opened the door for Don to professional art. The co-worker persuaded Don to present and sell his limited edition prints to frame shops as he traveled the surrounding states. To Don’s surprise he was very successful, which caused him to take on and represent two other fine artists. And although involved in professional art as a sideline sales rep, he wasn’t using his talents to produce his own art. Demands of career placed those interests on hold until many years later. Career success eventually gave him time to create. Painting in watercolor he entered competitions and won numerous awards. Eventually he tried painting in oils and enjoyed it so much that this is now how he spends most of his creative time. Upon retirement he moved to Utah to be near family and located in Payson, Utah where he maintains a studio in his home. Many miles have been driven searching for those unique scenes to transfer to canvas. He has shown his work in galleries in Houston, Park City, Salt Lake City and numerous smaller town galleries and shows. He continues to show at local and regional shows.
His work has received numerous awards and has been shown at:
